Scope and Contents

The letter describes the new department and comments 'We shall have, in short, all the things for which we banged our heads against the impenetrable wall of Cambridge'. The related documents comprise an introductory 'leaflet' describing the new department'; letter of reply from Joseph Needham. Price also included with his letter a copy of a letter from Albert Einstein at Princeton to J. S. Switzer of San Mateo, California, (23 April 1953). Einstein's letter describes two great achievements of Western Science and states 'In my opinion one has not to be astonished that the Chinese sages have not made these steps'.
