In his letter, Hu Daojing mentions that he had sent them a letter on 25 Sep. to Tokyo, including a copy of the China Daily, and hopes they received it. He is also enclosing the Wen Hui Bao article dated 30 Sep. He thanks them for gifts to Sun Zhongwei [孙仲威] and other friends, and mentions sending other gifts to them via Cao Tianqin, who will deliver the gifts to them in Hong Kong. He says that the chancellor [xiaozhang 校长] of Hong Kong University, Dr Huang Lisong [黃麗松] was away during their visit to Shanghai but will see them in Hong Kong. He encloses the 4-page text of an article dated 13 Oct. 1981 entitled 'Huan ying Li Yuese bo shi fang Hu zuo tan hui ji xue shu bao gao hui jian xun' [欢迎李约瑟博士访沪座谈会及学术报告会简讯 Newsletter to Welcome Dr Joseph Needham to the Shanghai Symposium and Academic Report Meeting] in the series 'Wen shi yan jiu yu gu ji chu ban dong tai' [文史研究与古籍出版动态 Research in Literature and History and News Concerning the Publication of Ancient Books] No. 37, edited by Shang-hai gu ji chu ban she zi liao shi [上海古籍出版社资料室 Shanghai Office of Materials Relating to the Publication of Ancient Books]. Gives dates (probably of his visit) of 19-24 Sep. The Symposium was on 22 Sep. The Newsletter quotes from his speech.
