Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Fonds:

The purpose of this visit was to give the second series of Ch’ien Mu (Qian Mu 錢穆) Lectures in History and Culture at the New Asia College (The Chinese University of Hong Kong). This was a series of 5 lectures given between 12 Oct. and 26 Oct. Dr Ch’ien Mu was the founder of the New Asia College and gave the first series of lectures in 1978. Joseph Needham was appointed Ch’ien Mu Visiting Professor. He also gave an address at the Chung Chi College (Chongji xueyuan 崇基學院, The Chinese University of Hong Kong) Founders’ Day on 26 Oct. 1979. Finally, he gave the S.T. Huang Chan Memorial Lecture on 9 Nov. 1979.
The dates of his journey were 8 Oct. to 12 Nov. 1979 (in Hong Kong 9 Oct. to 11 Nov.)
