Scope and Contents

Joseph Needham travelled with Lu Gwei-Djen. On 9 Jun. 1978 he gave the inaugural Martin Wickramasinghe lecture entitled ‘History and Human Values: A Chinese Perspective for World Science and Technology’. This was also an important trip for raising funds and support for the newly established East Asian History of Science Library based at 8 Shaftesbury Road, Cambridge.

Met Dorothy Needham in Athens on 13 June.

At the end of the year, Joseph Needham and Lu Gwei-Djen travelled to Paris for a meeting at the UNESCO Headquarters, held 4-5 Dec. 1978.
