Scope and Contents
This material comprises Joseph Needham's records of names of people encountered by Joseph Needham in his role as an historian on science and technology in East Asia. This section includes the set of namecards compiled by Needham in his role as head of the Sino-British Scientific Cooperation Office in Chungking, 1943-1946 as well as various later registers of names.

The index cards are arranged alphabetically. They were previously held in 12 drawers of a metal filing cabinet. They were re-housed for conservation reasons in 2020.
Date information
It is unclear when the collection began to be arranged in this way, but contacts must have been kept from the very beginning of Joseph Needham's work on the series, [Late 1940s to 1980s?].
