Kangxi Period porcelain enamel 'treasure bowl' with dragon and cloud patterns, 1661-1722 [Kangxi Year System of the Qing Dynasty 大清康熙年製]?
Scope and Contents
This is a yellow and green porcelain enamel bowl with the reign mark on the base Da Qing Kangxi nian zhi 大清康熙年製 (Made in the Great Qing Kangxi era) [1661-1772]. The body of the vase has classical cloud patterns (xiang yun 祥雲) and a red sun with flames surrounding it. The main patterns are the five dragons, with their colours being green-blue, blue-green, purple-green, green-purple and purple-green respectively. These dragons are drawn in the classic style of 'the dragon pattern (long wen 龍紋)', depecting the scene of Five dragons playing with a pearl (wu long xi zhu 五龍戲珠). The inside and bottom of the bowl are completely green. The condition of the bowl is good. This porcelain bowl is a classic Chinese Treasure Bowl (ju bao pen 聚寶盆), in which items such as coins and amulets would traditionally be placed.
