Scope and Contents

This is a vintage Chinese ginger jar depicting the scene Zhang Sheng jumps over the wall (张生跳墙) in the Chinese classic Xi Xiang Ji (西厢记). The jar is in good condition with no cracks, and there are no written characters on it. The colours show no signs of fading, the lid pattern is a silk ribbon around a flower, and there is no reign mark on the underside, indicating that it is most likely from a folk kiln rather than being imperial ware.
