Blue and white Kangxi period vase with small tiger lid, 1661-1722 [Kangxi era 康熙年代]?
Scope and Contents
This is a blue and white vase with reign mark Kangxi nian zhi 康熙年製 (Made in the Kangxi era) [1661-1722], depicting two dragons face to face with each other amongst a foliage of different leaves and flowers. The base and the mouth are decorated with a ring made up of a pattern of flowers and shapes (circles and rectangles). The shape of the vase is similar to that of a late Qing vase '清晚期青花仕女蕉叶文瓶' with a thin neck and a top thick bottom thin body. The lid of the vase has a similar pattern to that of the body, but it has a sculpture of a tiger crouching on top of it, most likely serving as a handle. Damage has been done to the neck of the vase but it has been glued back together, and the tiger sitting on the lid is unstable.
