This file contains an invitation card, book of signatures and 14 photographs of the 4th 'International Science and Peace Week' Activities – 'Joseph Needham and China' Meeting [第四届《国际科学与和平周》活动—— 《李约瑟与中国》, held at the International Hotel [北京国际饭店], Beijing on12 November 1992.
The meeting also has the title, as seen in the photographs, of 'Commemoration of Joseph Needham’s 50 years of aid to China and Workshop' [纪念李约瑟援华50周年暨学术讨论会].
Present were old friends of Joseph Needham’s, such as Wang Yinglai 王应睐, Xie Xide 谢希德, Hu Daojing 胡道静 and others. The booklet is signed by many people, including the British Ambassador, Robin McLaren.
The 14 colour photographs, taken by Zhou Xinming 周昕明 [see verso of 11.] comprise:
1-2. View of the main speakers and audience at the Academic Meeting. In the centre are (left to right) Xie Xide 谢希德, Hu Daojing 胡道静 and Wang Yinglai 王应睐.
3-6. Views of an exhibition about Joseph Needham, including copies of his books, many photographs and other materials. This was presumably put together by Wang Guozhong 王国忠.
