Joseph Needham's file title is 'GD's biography 1981 for Shanghai Festschrift Chung-Hua Wên Shih Lun Tshung'. It relates to a biography of Joseph Needham by Lu Gwei-Djen entitled ‘The First Half-Life of Joseph Needham’. The ‘half-life’ is defined by Lu Gwei-Djen as before 1948 when he returned to Cambridge from UNESCO to begin work on Science and Civilisation in China. It was published as ‘Explorations in the History of Science and Technology in China’, a special number of the ‘Collections of Essays on Chinese Literature and History in honour of Joseph Needham’s 80th birthday published in Shanghai in 1982. The file includes Joseph Needham’s handwritten and typescript bibliography entitled ‘my orig. model’ and a photocopy of the article entitled 'Metabolic Inhibitors and the Biochemistry of Embryonic Determination in Echinoderms' written by Joseph and Dorothy Needham published in the Bulletin of the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory 43rd Season 15 Jun. to 15 Sep. 1941.
