Objects formerly displayed in a wooden cabinet, c.1940s-1980s

Scope and Contents

These items comprise:
(1) 1 heavily tarnished Chinese bronze mirror decorated with animals and plants
(2) 6 pieces of pottery or tiles (4 with glaze in green, blue and yellow and 2 with raised circles and triangles). A tile with blue glaze has a handwritten note inked on the back: 'Tile from the Temple of Heaven, Peiping, from A.R. Moore'.
(3) 1 balance weight with 9995 engraved on one side and P.K.M.A. engraved on the other side. On the bottom are two Chinese characters [?] 平
(4) 2 engraved pieces of stone with holes drilled into them
(5) 2 small stone carved heads
(6) 1 carved stone figure of a man
(7) 1 carved stone snail
(8) 1 carved stone silk worm
(9) 1 rectangle of (ivory?) with a worn image of a Chinese image playing a zither and Chinese characters on the front
(10) 1 seal ink porcelain lid, cracked, painted with a scene showing rocks, trees, a boat and mountains with Chinese characters
(11) 1 Chinese miniature broken pottery jar with green and yellow glaze (Tang dynasty?)
(12) 1 rectangular metal talisman 符 with Chinese characters on one side and decorations on the other
(13) 1 small silver ingot with Chinese characters 一分銀 on one side and 定 銀[坠?]常是 on the other side
(14) 2 (Greek?) coins
(15) medal for the 10th Congresso Internationale Di Scienze Storiche Roma, 4-11 Sept. 1955
(16) 1 knapped glass or flint blade
(17) 1 carved (ivory?) elephant
(18) 1 white soapstone ring in the shape of a small cong 琮
(19) 1 white soapstone auspicious pendant with fruit or vegetables on one side and Chinese characters [?] 福 on the other
(20) 1 small metal bell on a chain
(21) 1 Chinese (ivory?) heart locket which opens, with a picture of a peacock on one side and a scene showing rocks and water on the other side
(22) 1 ink stamp of a stylised bird
(23) 1 old-looking painted pottery head, badly damaged and broken (possibly from Dunhuang Qianfodong, or other Buddhist grotto)
(24) 1 glass-topped wooden display cabinet with cord for wall hanging and metal hooks to keep the hinged lid closed.
