Hand box for keeping fighting crickets, c. 1964
Scope and Contents
The box was held in a metal ‘Bacon Brothers Manufacturers’ tin. A handwritten note by Joseph Needham on the outside of the tin states: ‘Wood and ivory hand box for keeping fighting crickets - the smallest of a group of half a dozen in the collection of Rewi Alley, Peking’. The round ivory top is carved with a flower design and star-shaped holes.
