 Item
Reference Code: GBR/1928/NRI/NRI2/8/13/2/2

Scope and Contents

The bottle has on one side an illustration of a 5-masted steam ship or paddle steamer in the style of a traditional Chinese ship; on the other a depiction of 5 men, 1 kneeling, around a man or woman sitting on a chair. The standing figures may be meant to be foreigners, sea captains or naval men, the man sitting on the ornate western style chair (throne) perhaps a foreign king or queen (Victoria?). There are Chinese characters in seal script on the base.
