Two small round wooden boxes given by Joseph Needham to Dorothy Needham, c.1920s-1940s
Scope and Contents
One box has an illustration of Eve taking an apple from the Tree of Knowledge. On the inside of the lid is written in pencil ‘to ΔoΦe with love from Joseph March 1925’.
The other box has an illustration of Saint Dorothea picking red roses from a bush. On the inside of the lid is a blurred inscription in pen ‘ΔoΦ! from Joseph with great love to commemorate the [illegible]’. It contains two dark purple fabric buttons on safety pins and one sewing pin with a round blue ball at the top.
The boxes were held in a green hand-stitched bag.
