This is the base unit with a slot for a 5 ¼ inch (133 mm) floppy disk. It is marked with the name of the Needham Research Institute. Made in Armonk, New York.
In the itinerary of his visit to Hong Kong in 1983, Joseph Needham recorded his visit to the Dodwell IBM Centre, with a note in P.L. Lam’s handwriting ‘I have suggested a computer instead of word processor’ 1983 (reference NRI2/5/9/2/3/1).
