Letters from Miss Josephine Coning to Julia Pleister: File 2, 1954
Scope and Contents
A letter of 8 August includes a page and a half on Josephine’s family history and background and some autobiographical notes.
Letters of 30 September and 5 October refer to a meeting at Whitelands College attended by Julia: Josephine mentions Winifred Mercier having been a ‘fellow student’ [Whitelands College was originally founded as a teacher training college in Chelsea in 1841 and is now part of Roehampton – Winifred Mercier was its Principal 1918-34].
In a letter of 20 October 1954 Josephine says ‘I am much interested in The New Hall experimental entrance exam’ and comments on the material in it, with particular reference to questions relating to students of poetry.
