'Letters from Egypt Spring 1939', 1939-03-04 - 1939-04-03
Scope and Contents
Typescript copies of letters concerning a trip to Egypt. The letters are presumed to have been written by Julia Pleister, although they are not signed or otherwise identified and there is no indication of who the recipient was. The letters often speak in the first person plural but there is no indication of who the companion was. They are addressed successively from: Paris; Marseilles; the Hotel Cecil, Alexandria; the Cataract Hotel, Aswan; the Winter Palace Hotel, Luxor; and the Mena House Hotel, Cairo. They give detailed descriptions of sightseeing, museums, local life etc. The last letter is headed ‘In train to Rickmansworth’.
