General correspondence, 1881 - 1963
Scope and Contents
The correspondence listed here relates chiefly to Leishman's academic interests in English literature, literary criticism and translation. It includes letters from colleagues in these fields, particularly those interested in translations of Rainer Maria Rilke, and from publishers, together with a handful of letters of a more personal nature. The series consists almost entirely of incoming letters with only a very small number of copy outgoing letters. Some of the letters are in German. The letters are addressed chiefly to Leishman's home addresses, successively in Southampton and at University College, Southampton (to 1944), 59 Holywell Street, Oxford (to 1949), 7 Bardwell Court, 24 Bardwell Road, Oxford (to 1960), and then 10B Bardwell Road, Oxford.
