Scope and Contents

Letter written by Anne Thackeray [found in a copy of A T's 'Old Kensington' in the Library of New Hall], addressed from 16 Onslow Gardens, giving a reference for a Mr Ellis. The letter reads:
'I have known Mr Ellis for about sixteen yeares during which he has constantly worked at our house. He is 79 & his wife is in her 89th year. They are both highly respectable & trustworthy people & I first made their acquaintance through a person to whom when they were in better cicrcumstances - they had shown great kindness. It would give me great pleasure if my recommendation could be of any use to an independent honest & hard-working man, now disabled by age & infirmity'.
