Scope and Contents
The papers listed here consist of handwritten drafts, manuscripts, typescripts, page proofs and reviews of Jane Rogers' seven novels published between 1983 and 2004, namely: Separate Tracks (Faber and Faber 1983); Her Living Image (Faber and Faber 1984); The Ice is Singing (Faber and Faber 1987); Mr Wroe's Virgins (Faber and Faber 1991); Promised Lands (Faber and Faber 1995); Island (Little, Brown 1999); and The Voyage Home (Little, Brown 2004). These were donated to New Hall Archives in November 2005 and the extent is 24 files in 8 boxes. They are listed chronologically.

Biographical / Historical
Jane Rogers was born in London in 1952 and lived in Birmingham, New York State and Oxford before studying English at New Hall from 1971-74. She taught English for six years before the publication in 1983 of her first novel, Separate Tracks. Since then she has written seven novels and original television and radio drama; she has also adapted work (her own and other writers') for radio and television. She is also the editor of Oxford University Press's Good Fiction Guide, published in 2001. In 1994 she was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She has taught writing to a wide range of students and is currently (2006) Professor of Writing on the MA course at Sheffield Hallam University.
