Scope and Contents
CHRISTOPHER JOHNSON, interviewed 9/02/05 (62 minutes). Arriving at NH in 1970 to represent St John’s College on Council, he soon became involved in the Finance Committee, and witnessed changes when New Hall received the Royal Charter in 1972. He explains the history of the financial input of St John's into New Hall. He records his own career including appointments as Bursar at St John’s, Selwyn and Newnham. He remembers the appointment of George Levack as NH Bursar, and talks about the expansion of provision for graduates in NH. He recalls the discussion on Council of issues such as student representation, student unrest, and admission of women to previously men-only colleges. He records Rosemary Murray’s diverse skills, her time as Vice-Chancellor including the election of the new Chancellor, and her links with Cambridge City Council, on which CJ served.
