Geoff Trickey; Joan Hinde. GEOFF TRICKEY, interviewed 30.1.03 (43 minutes), recalls his involvement with the building of NH as senior surveyor in Phases I and II, and his relationship with the architects, their representatives, and the contractors. He also mentions the later architect Frank Woods. He refers to several innovative design features, attributed to Powell, and the roles of Chamberlin as 'politician' and Bon as 'administrator' in the architects' partnership. He comments on building materials and the financial constraints on design. He also comments on the influence of Rosemary Murray.
JOAN HINDE, interviewed 30.1.03. (82 minutes), recalls her appointment to the small NH fellowship in 1966 and her impressions of the new buildings and the early tutors. She comments on the role of tutor and contrasts NH then and now, including in its accommodation arrangements. She speaks of the initial structure of the new buildings on the Huntingdon Road site, particularly their spaciousness , and reviews the development of the site by reference to a series of plans in the Conservation Plan for NH, November 2001. She comments on student life including student representation on Council, and protests in the 1970s. She refers to the advantages and disadvantages of single-sex colleges, and other colleges' attitudes to NH, including benefactions.
