Interview no. 11, 2001-07-12
Scope and Contents
PAT HOUGHTON, interviewed 12/07/01 (61 min): describes her 1955 application to New Hall (as Pat Slawson) in its second undergraduate intake, the first year of the entrance examination. She relates life at Silver Street and the relationship of her peers to the previous intake. She recalls gate and guest hours, supervisions, student welfare and discipline, and the allocation of rooms. She describes undergraduate social activities beyond College, including May Balls and dramatic productions.
Following graduation Pat married a graduate of Peterhouse, and continued to live in Cambridge. She has been involved in alumna activities including the New Hall Society and organising reunions. Her hobby of photography led her to making a cinematographic record of the erection of the new College buildings in the 1960s, and eventually to working on the filming of the NH Video Archive.
