Scope and Contents
Photographs of construction work on the main buildings. Original b/w negatives with ca. 130 modern (1998) prints, 7"x5". Include many shots of sections ('petals') of the Dome being transported along Huntingdon Road and being lifted into place. Original b/w negatives with approximately 130 modern (1998) prints, 7"x5", in 6 envelopes, bearing the name R A Douglas Noble; together with a ringbinder volume containing mostly duplicate prints filed in polyester pockets, showing vehicles, construction, builders and other workers etc. The ringbinder is subdivided as follows:
Section 1: 'Construction of the Library' (including the barrel vault roof);
Section 2: 'The Snowstorm of 1963' (winter 1962-63);
Section 3: 'Construction of the Dome' (including a sketch of the Dining Hall roof structure by Harris & Sutherland, Constructing Engineers, 11 June 1998);
Section 4: 'Repairs made during Construction';
Section 5: 'The End Result' (NB: these photographs still show much in the way of scaffolding, cranes and incomplete buildings).
