Houses and Land II, 1969 - 1971
Scope and Contents
Correspondence and papers concerning houses, flats, land etc which New Hall considered buying but did not ultimately pursue, including many notes and comments in the hand of Rosemary Murray concerning individual properties in relation to the College's financial situation and the undergraduate housing situation. The file has been heavily weeded and now contains the following:
correspondence with Gerard Meath of Blackfriars re concerns on the part of their neighbour, Dr Anderson, relating to the prospect of a hotel development on the Huntingdon Road corner, 1970;
correspondence concerning the letting to New Hall by King's College of 11 Newnham Terrace, 1971-72;
papers concerning the possible letting by Peterhouse of 12 Brunswick Walk (off Maid's Causeway), 1971 (rejected by Council);
correspondence and papers concerning the possible letting to New Hall by St John's College of 12 and 12A Madingley Road, 1970;
correspondence and papers concerning the possibility of renting 5 Tearland Court, King's Road, Newnham, 1971;
correspondence and papers concerning the possible purchase of Rolleston, 1 Huntingdon Road, 1970;
speculative letters from New Hall to neighbouring houses on Huntingdon Road, including no. 8 (George T Sassoon), 1969;
correspondence and papers concerning the possible purchase of 96 Huntingdon Road, 1969;
correspondence with St John's College concerning the letting of St Francis House, Lady Margaret Road (which was eventually let to Lucy Cavendish College and became College House), including a letter from Anna Bidder, President of Lucy Cavendish, and notes concerning the possibility of Lucy Cavendish lodging New Hall undergraduates on the top floor, 1969.
