 File
Reference Code: GBR/3124/NHAR 2/10/20

Scope and Contents

The volume contains entries for 1954-89 and a few entries for 1996-97, 2001 and 2005-6, giving date of donation; name of donor / title of bequest; description; and sometimes value / note of items being sold. Includes silver, furniture and furnishings, china, books, paintings, plants, wine. The volume is nine tenths blank: it is unlikely that it consistently records all donations even for the period 1954-89. It is written in the hand of Rosemary Murray until the early 1980s. The book itself was donated by Rosemary Syfret in 1954. There are detailed entries covering the John Murray Elger bequest and the Eileen McElfatrick bequest. Many entries relate to gifts from Rosemary Murray herself and from the W W Spooner bequest, particularly silver. Pasted into the volume: obituary for Cyril Maplethorpe 1983; valuation by Phillips of some silverware; Council note re life and bequest of Lady Waechter de Grimston. The file contains related papers and correspondence 1981-2001, including correspondence with the following: Prof Mary Fulbrook; Miss Alison Duke; Dr L M Singhvi; Dr Joan Pollen; C K Teo; Robert Turcan; Roger Paice; and Mary Tyrrell of the National Union of Women Teachers; also list of furniture on loan from A R Murray October 1981; and valuation of 17thC oak table 1998.
