These papers were accumulated by Christopher Stevenson [CAETS], former Bursar of New Hall. Having retired as Bursar in 1997, CAETS was a Supernumerary Fellow of the College from 1997-2004. During these years he continued to serve on a number of committees, including the Development Committee, the Investment Committee, the Kaetsu Liaison Committee, the Wine Committee, the Film Committee and the Art Committee. In particular, he was asked by the President to become Curator of the New Hall Art Collection [NHAC] 'for the time being' (see file 4, NHAR 6/5/4) in November 2000. He was re-appointed to serve on the Committee for an additional three years from October 2001 and appears to have ceased active involvement from late 2004. His interest in the collection continued, however, and the date coverage of the files extends to 2011.
Each file typically contains correspondence with women artists contributing their work to the collection; background material on individual artists, such as press cuttings, literature relating to their exhibitions, etc; Art Committee agendas, minutes and correspondence, including papers and correspondence relating to Art Committee events, such as garden parties; correspondence and papers concerning temporary exhibitions in New Hall, including invitations, flyers, press releases, lists etc; lists of acquisitions; inspection reports; lists of works currently on show and their locations; annual reports on the collection; correspondence with Anne Lonsdale, President, and with successive Curators, including Jenny Teichman, Jonathan Herring, Aya Soika and Amanda Rigler; correspondence with Patricia Acres, Secretary to the NHAC; and general press cuttings relating to NHAC.
The files also contain some material relating to artists and exhibitions not directly connected with the NHAC: these have been retained as evidence of CAETS' strong interest in art generally and the wide-ranging interests which informed his work for the NHAC.
Note: some of the earlier files contain some faxes which have faded. These have been enhanced where possible by photocopying but some have faded beyond recovery.
