Image from 'The Invention of Book Printing’ , 1940-04-26
This is a negative of an image from 'The Invention of Book Printing,’ a volume of engravings first published in Antwerp by Philips Galle in c.1591 held in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. It shows the printing process in the 16th century. The copy was made in Apr. 1940.
Doorway to printing house in Queen's Lane, Cambridge, c.1950-1970
These are black and white photographs of an ink sketch showing Queen’s Lane with a doorway on the right. A note on the back of one photograph states: ‘The doorway on the right belongs to the building used as a printing house until about 1804 (see Willis and Clark).’ On the back of the other photograph is a handwritten note: ‘To be returned to B.C.’ The original is held in Cambridge University Library (Cam.830.3).
