John S. Udal: Antiquarian and genealogical letters
Scope and Contents
'Autograph letters upon general antiquarian & literary subjects'. There are 77 letters to John Symonds Udal, arranged alphabetically by author, on antiquarian, genealogical and heraldic subjects, and folklore. These include many letters on Udal's work on monumental inscriptions in St Kitts and Antigua, and colonial families of British origin (especially for Burke's Colonial gentry). There are also letters from the editors of Notes and queries. Udal's bookplate is inside the front cover.
