Scope and Contents From the Fonds: The collection comprises G.K. Roth's subject files on Fijian affairs, culture, history, sociology and administration. Some of the material is in Fijian. The subject files have been recorded as found [i.e. transcribed directly from the covers of the files]. The terms 'native', 'natives' and 'native administration', as used by Roth in his capacity as a colonial administrator to refer to Fijian people and the structure of colonial government, have been retained in their original context....

There are 77 letters to John Symonds Udal, arranged alphabetically by author, on antiquarian, genealogical and heraldic subjects, and folklore. These include many letters on Udal's work on monumental inscriptions in St Kitts and Antigua, and colonial families of British origin (especially for Burke's Colonial gentry).
