Scope and Contents

The collection consists of letters (the majority to Burkitt); papers and lectures on various subjects; notebooks and rough notes; and newscuttings, mainly reviews of Burkitt's books. There is also material dealing with Burkitt's academic career, such as his Honorary Degrees and the Congresses he attended, and a number of papers and articles written by other scholars. Section A: 1-29. Letters by Burkitt to various correspondents. Section B: 1-1046. Letters to Burkitt from various correspondents, with some letters from various correspondents to others, in alphabetical order. 1047-1065. Unfinished or unidentified letters. Section C: Papers by Burkitt, in manuscript or printed form: I. Biblical subjects (Old Testament, New Testament and the Apocrypha). II. Language, Text and Versions. III. Early Christianity and Heresy. IV. Franciscan Studies. V. Miscellaneous Theological and Liturgical papers. VI. Reviews and biological notices by Burkitt. Section D: Notebooks and loose notes, mainly on linguistic subjects. Section E: Newcuttings, mainly reviews of Burkitt's work, and some printed pamphlets, arranged chronologically. Section F: Material from school, university, honorary degrees, congresses, and memoranda. Section G: Material, other than letters, written by others, arranged alphabetically by author. Section H: Miscellaneous: programmes, maps, photographs, and notes.
