Scope and Contents

Small album measuring 160 x 135 mm containing photographs 90 x 90 mm loosely inserted into photograph slots, one to a page. There is a handwritten caption (and date) under each photograph, although the information is not always easily discernable. Written on the inside cover in perhaps a different hand is 'Interesting naval photographs.' The album shows views of ships, their crew and harbours.

Identified ships are: S.S. Oroya; H.M.S. Penguin; H.M.S. Ringarooma; SS Moravian; ‘SS Royal Arthur (flagship) on a misty morning arriving at port Melbourne 8.7.03’; and H.M.S. ?Pylacks.

Identified personnel are; J.J. Walker, Fleet Engineer, H.M.S. Ringarooma; G.C. Lewis, S.S. Moravian; Lieut. T.A. Williams, accompanied by Mrs. Hardy, Miss Winifred Hardy, Mrs. Gladys Hardy and Miss Beatrice ?Crofter.

The collection also includes scenes of the botanical gardens in Sydney, a marine sentry at Port Melbourne, two Japanese officers of the I.J.N. Hashidate June 1903, a drummer and piper on H.M.S. Ringarooma and also a Rifle team on the Ringarooma who won the Queensland cup in July 1903.
