Scope and Contents
An office desk diary for 1876, 5'' x 12½'', blank save for 22 pages of inserted press cuttings and leaflets relating to political and personal controversies in Grenada, including attacks by G.W. Williamson, a member of the Legislative Council, on various officials; criticisms of E.K. Moylan, Attorney-General, a colleague of Williamson's who was suspended in 1883; Moylan's accusations against Irving Maling, Colonial Secretary; and charges by Williamson and Francis Batt, a Member of Legislative Council, against D. Garraway, Auditor of Public Accounts, from which he was exonerated. The cuttings have been annotated and include comments by D.H. Simpson, R.C.S. Librarian. At the front of the volume is an inserted page of notes by Simpson on the individuals concerned, including page references. The principal contents are as follows:
P. 1. 'A suggestion to the public of Grenada', a poem by Nemo (G.W. Williamson) against Lt. Gov. R.W. Harley, July 1878.
Pp. 2. 'Dogberry's commandments by Tea Kurr', written against Adminstrator T. Kerr and his Chief Magistrate J.B. Skeete by R. Livesey and G.W. Williamson, February 1879.
Pp. 3-4. 'Right of wrong, a series of papers on the subject of Crown Government as practised in the West Indies, by a planter', an attack on Attorney-General E.K. Moylan, 1882.
Pp. 5. 'A new "Lodgesang"', a poem, 26 January 1883.
Pp. 15. 'Our highly intelligent man', a poem by Pote on Francis Batt, 7 April 1883.
Pp. 16. Government notice exonerating D. Garraway, 6 April 1883.
Pp. 17. 'Sir Molene and Binko, a true ballad', concerning Moylan and Williamson, March 1883.
Pp. 6-15 and 18-22. Fourteen cuttings from the 'Agricultural reporter', 'Chronicle' and possibly other sources, May 1882 - April 1883.
