Biographical / Historical

Agnes Hester Loxton (1909-2002) was born on 31 August 1909, the daughter of Stanley and Una Warren. After attending an Africaans Medium High School, she began to train as a nurse, but left in 1930 to marry William Loxton (1888-1962). The Loxtons lived on Damara Farm, Bulawayo, until the death of William Loxton in 1962, when their son, Charles Warren Loxton (1931-1983), took over the farm. Agnes remained and ran a local store until 1982, when she joined her sister Maud in Odendaalsrus, Orange Free State, South Africa. In 1977 she toured Europe with Maud and visited her cousins in England. She entered an Old Persons' Home in Welkom, Orange Free State, in 1993, and later transferred to another in Odendaalsrus. She died near Welkom on 9 September 2002.
