Scope and Contents

Five volumes of manuscripts. Each volume is bound in leather with the title and elaborate tooling on each front cover. They appear to be reports to the Governor-General from local officials. Each cover is marked: '1903-1904; Sénégambie-Niger: Cercle de ...' with the appropriate name. The books are full of lined paper, and neatly written reports, each in a different hand on the history, administration etc. of the area. Four of the five volumes contain a hand drawn map of the area.

1. Cercle de Kayes. 76 pages. map.
2. Cercle de Bafoulabè. 22 pages. map.
3. Cercle de Kita. 75 pages. map (x 2).
4. Cercle de Sègou. 66 pages. map.
5. Cercle de Bandiagara. 67 pages.

Senegambia and Niger was a short-lived administrative unit of the French possessions in Africa, formed in 1902 and reorganized in 1904 into Upper Senegal and Niger.
