Winifred Nicholson: letters and cards to Helen Gleadlow, with related materials
Scope and Contents
11 letters and five postcards from Winifred Nicholson to her friend Helen Gleadlow, 1971-1973 and undated (some apparently after March 1974). Three of the postcards are addressed jointly to Helen and Rupert Gleadlow. All but one of the letters was written from Nicholson's home, Banks Head (alternatively written as 'Bankshead'), Brampton, Cumberland / Cumbria; the exception was written from Bath. The postcards were written from Greece.
With a calendar for the year 1980 bearing a manuscript Christmas greeting 'to Helen from Winifred'; a monochrome photographic print of a painting by Nicholson, taken by Sydney W. Newbery; colour prints on card of paintings by Nicholson, published by Temenos, eight designs, of which five are present in two copies; and an envelope addressed to Kathleen Raine, postmarked 1987. Also present is a postcard to Helen Gleadlow from Rosamond Lehmann, London, 17 January 1985.
