Scope and Contents

Miscellaneous correspondence and related papers regarding physics, including the following material:

Correspondence with the Royal Aircraft Factory, South Farnborough, regarding testing the action of sunlight on linen fabric, 1918.

Correspondence concerning general physics, 1916-1923, relating mainly to Einstein's theories; requests for information on the 1919 Eclipse observations at Sobral, Brazil; and a report on photographs. There is also a report of the Committee of the Board of Mathematical Studies, University of London, regarding the mathematical syllabus.

Correspondence relating to the Carnegie Institution observations in connection with the Einstein Theory, 1920-1938. The correspondence is mainly with Dr Louis A. Bauer, regarding his interpretation of the results of Dr Crommelin's observations at Sobral of the solar eclipse of 29 May 1919, with a graph of the results, plates showing the non-radial effects of the light deflections and various tables.
