Scope and Contents
Miscellaneous papers concerning astronomical matters, including letters from Sir D. Gill, J.R. Hind, C.P. Smyth, M.J.C. Houzeau, M.J. Peroche, Herr F.H. Geobel and Herr C.W. Moesta. The subjects covered include the Nottingham Free Public Library; the Gresham Lectures, 1880; a paper on the apparent places of stars at upper transit, Greenwich, by Col. Drayson; a printed address by Sir D. Gill on the determination of the Earth's distance from the Sun; elements of the transits of Venus, 1631-2012; Houzeau's 'Bibliographie Generale de L'Astronomie'; the periodicity of sunspots; solar physics; the proximity of Jupiter to the Earth; the parallax of Alpha 2 Centauri; the telegraphic announcement of astronomical discoveries; and correspondence on other subjects relating to astronomy.
