This summarised account of a voyage of the East Indiaman 'Speaker', travelling from England to Bombay, was compiled by Robert Bishop, based on the journal of Captain Robert Scott. Entries are daily and run from 4 April until 26 August 1769 (when the ship arrived at Bombay, travelling via Madeira and Madagascar). Entries for the return voyage run from 29 December 1769 until 22 February (when the ship anchored at the Cape of Good Hope), and from 2 March until 16 June 1770 (travelling to England via the Cape Verde Islands).
The entries are in tabular format, and record the ship's latitude, longitude and magnetic variation, with occasional remarks (chiefly on the sighting of land or the ship’s arrival into port).
