Arrangement

After World War Two, General Board staff conceived of a single, vast series of subject files arranged according to a numerical classification scheme, 1-778. The files contained copies of General Board minutes (and those of other central bodies), correspondence and related papers. From the mid 1980s, the scheme became more elaborate, an additional three digits being added after a stop. In a few places, a new number was assigned to a subject for which an earlier one had been given or numbers were reused. The series was closed in 2015.

The classification scheme has been retained in the University Archives. In this catalogue, the number designating each subject, 1-778, appears as the first part of the reference and title. Files have been boxed in order of accession from the offices of the General Board; hence the non-chronological arrangement in some places where later parts of subject sequences have been received before earlier, or files overlap. File titles recorded as found.
