Biographical / Historical
In 1628 and 1630, Thomas Hobson gave the University and town jointly property in the parish of St Andrew without Barnwell for the erection and maintenance of a house of correction or workhouse. He also left land for maintaining the conduit bringing water into the Market Square from Nine Wells at Shelford.
