Conditions Governing Access
The University Archives are generally freely available to the holder of a reader's ticket for the Manuscripts Reading Room at Cambridge University Library, West Road, Cambridge CB3 9DR. Restrictions on access are imposed on certain categories of sensitive record: financial, governmental and personal, by order of the originating body or under data protection legislation. Access information, including opening hours and how to obtain a reader's ticket, appears as part of the Library's web site (www.lib.cam.ac.uk).
Biographical / Historical
The School was established in 1984, assuming formal responsibility for resource allocation and coordination across humanities and social science institutions, previously held by Interfaculty Committee B. The committee had operated since 1973 in an informal capacity, advising the General Board of the Faculties on such matters as requests to fill vacant offices, statements of new needs, proposals for temporary upgrading of graduate offices, and distribution of staff resources. Immediate Source of Acquisition
The archives were transferred to the University Archives from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences in two tranches by Jennifer Cartwright, administrator, on 28 August 2011 and Jill Noble, administrator, on 19 September 2016.

The online catalogue was completed in September 2011 and emended in July 2017.
