Comprises portfolios of loose notes relevant to Darwin's 1846 work on South America. The contents are broadly summarised as follows: DAR 42: 1-33 'Earthquakes'; DAR 42: 34-89 'Scraps Cleavage'; DAR 42: 90-211 'Scraps to End of Pampas Chapter'. The notes include pages from the 'Red Notebook' and Notebook A.
