Letter to Edward Rose from Eizah Pitman [Sir Isaac Pitman] of the Phonetic Institute, 30 January 1892
Scope and Contents
The whole letter is written phonetically, on paper with five spelling reform rules printed at the top. The paper has been ripped in half and stuck back together.
Telling Rose that he was now getting on with additional books to complete the series of phonetic reading books: the selection which Cassell had made from “Evenings at Home” in his Child’s book (Mrs Godolphin turning the tales into monosyllables) will make 4 books; there will then be room for 3 at the end of the series to be set in small pica [text size] and he hoped to find matter for these in Miss Edgworth’s ‘Frank’, ‘Lucy’ etc. (asking Rose to lend them to him if he had them).
