 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS Add. 10138/3/60

Scope and Contents

With an envelope. The whole letter was written phonetically, on paper with five spelling reform rules printed at the top. The paper has been ripped in half and stuck back together.
Thanking Edward Rose for the opportunity to read ‘Near Home’ which was unsuitable as it propagates the old alphabet and they were using the enlarged alphabet of 36 characters; explaining that he didn’t like the doctrine in ‘Near Home’ as distinguishes God from Christ; telling Rose that ‘Evenings at Home’ was the best book for them and was available in instalments (asking him to return a sample). Also recalling that he had heard from Rose 5 or 6 years previously about spelling reform, and saying he’d be glad of Rose’s help filing the Phonetic Journal.
