Letter from Adam, Walter (Academy Assistance Council, Clare Market, London), 14 Nov. 1935
Scope and Contents
Writing from the Academic Assistance Council at Clements Inn Passage, Adams says he has met Mathilde Hertz, has received a long letter from the Master of Trinity [Joseph John Thomson] and has discussed her case with Professors [Archibald Vivian] Hill and [Charles Stanley] Gibson. They agree she should receive a grant for 1936 January-July to allow Thomson time to raise further funds from those indebted to Heinrich Hertz. Any appeal should be made after Hertz is back in Britain as otherwise the German authorities might prevent her from leaving Germany. With the recommenedation of Hill, Gibson and Rutherford the formal sanction for the AAC grant is assured.
