Scope and Contents
Small green sketchbook inscribed ‘H.A.T. Fairbank 1899’ containing sketches featuring voyage to South Africa aboard RMS Servia and several camps and field hospitals. Includes views of the island of Madeira, Saint Vincent Harbour, De Aar camp, Paardeberg field hospital, the surrender of Boer General Pieter Cronje, Major Robert J.L. Fayle's shelter at Bloemfontein, the settlement of Winburg, Boer gun pit at [Slobbart's Neck] and figures or faces of soldiers and horses, some inscribed with nicknames.
