Scope and Contents
In November 1957 four Spanish Government Officials spent two weeks in the United Kingdom as guests of the Foreign Office during which they visited Cambridge and met members of the University. The photograph shows the party at the University Arms Hotel. Individuals are identified in the photograph and include Juan Beneyto Perez (Director-General of the Press), Charles Hamson, Laureano Lopez Rodo (Secretary to the Presidency of the Government), Alejandro Suarez y Fernando Pello (Under Secretary, Ministry of Industry), N.J.A. Throckmorton (Central Office of Information), Alfred Newman Gilbey (Roman Catholic Chaplain to the University of Cambridge), Manuel Verela Pareche Secretary-General, Technical Cabinet, Ministry of Commerce), and John Arthur Pilcher (British Embassy, Madrid).
