Scope and Contents

A letter from Peking, 9 February 1878, including an 'ode' to Mayers by Tseng Chi-tse. There is also an undated printed 'Memorial Reporting the Advance of the Chinese Forces to Karashar and Kuche': a translation into English of a memorial by Tso Tsung-t'ang, incorporating a report from Liu Kin-t'ang [Liu Chin-t'ang] concerning military operations by Ch'ing forces in Turkestan against rebels led by Bayen Hu, August-October 1877, published in the manuscript (but not the printed) edition of the 'Peking Gazette' of 4 December 1877.
