Scope and Contents
A letter from Walter Gowan, Simla, to Parkes' private secretary, 16 July 1884, including a copy of a letter from Sir Samuel Halliday Macartney, Chinese Legation [London], to Gowan, 7 February 1884, conveying the thanks of Tseng Chi-tse for the copy of Gowan's translation of Aleksei Nikolaevich Kuropatkin, 'Kashgaria: Historical and Geographical Sketch of the Country; its Military Strength, Industries and Trade' (Calcutta and London, 1882), given to him by Gowan. There is also the original envelope.
